Beyond the LED: what does LED technology bring to individuals and families

Once I heard from my colleague, she had been attended a Buddhism ceremony and she heard whispers from a couple behind her. The wife wanted to change to LED technology for their home lighting but the husband didn't. Hence the wife was trying to convince the husband by calculating the electric bills. At last, the husband said with impatient, "The time that you used to calculate the electric bill saves more than the LED does."

We don't know, for now, whether this couple adopted the LED technology into their home lighting, but we do believe they are the victim by the latest LED technology, due to the misleading of the information.

LED technology is a new green technology. A green technology is more than energy-saving, but also friendly to environment, which includes the manufacturing friendly (green) and recycling friendly (green). LED technology covers all these three, therefore we refer as a LED as a green technology.

But, as an individual or single family, we can not feel the benefit of the green technology directly, at least at this moment. We might, hopefully, can benefit from the green technology in our next generation. We can support green LED technology for bigger good, but, what is LED can offer for smaller good (ourselves)?

Beyond the LED Technology, that we can profit from LED is the psychological effects. Basically, there are three aspects, including the quality of life, the efficiency of working and comfort of home. All of three are based on the digital control capability of the LED technology.

The quality of life: One can quickly liberate from the working pressure and relaxing, thanks to the color temperature modification of the lighting, and enable to working people to have a nice dinner and then get enough sleep. This contributes to both physiological and psychological health of individuals.

The efficiency of working: Employer focuses on the working efficiency and creative innovations; on the other hand, employee want to have a harmonic and relaxing working environment. These tough demands can be resolved by the digital control capability of LED, because the research suggest that the different lighting can influence different results, no matter the workers are performing computer task, reading task or idea creation at meeting room. Better working efficiency often induces higher profit to the company and also higher rewards to the individuals.

The comfort of home: LED provides less UV/blue spectrum than the CFL-I; therefore LED is much safer than others. A good desk lamp can provide good studying efficiency as well as the eyes protection to the kids. Moreover, LED can be installed in almost all locations (e.g., the gaps of the stairs), which improves the capability of object discrimination of the elder people to enhance the family life security.

These are the direct benefits to the individuals when they considered LED retrofit. It also suggests that people choose LED product more than just passion for green technology but also thinking about the purposes: to improve their life .
